Our Veterinary Team

Dr. Chad Malpass | Medical Director

Dr. Chad Malpass grew up just a few miles down the road from Archdale Animal Clinic. He started working here as a veterinary technician in 2009 while pursuing degrees in Biology and Chemistry from our very own High Point University.

Thereafter, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he was awarded the Robert D. Horne Orthopedic Surgery Award and is the recipient of the National Bayer Excellence in Communication Award.

He has special interests in osteoarthritis and ACL (more correctly called CCL) injury and repair. He also enjoys nutritional medicine and educating clients on how to keep their pets happy and healthy. Dr. Malpass has received additional training in diagnostic ultrasound.

In their free time, Dr. Chad, his wife Alix, and their boxer, Sookie, love to eat great food and travel. Weekends are filled with hiking, biking, skiing, bird hunting, fishing, or exploring something new; whether it be 10 minutes from home or on the other side of the globe. Did we mention he likes to eat?

Archdale Animal Clinic is such a special place, filled with people who genuinely care about their patients and their owners. I grew up in this town, and there is nowhere else I would have rather returned to but the Archdale, Trinity, High Point, and Thomasville areas - that are such special communities representing all sorts of people - good people. We promise to  serve this community with humility in our hearts and pride in our work. I am ecstatic to be a part of this community and its growth.

Dr. Mark L. Ayer

Dr. Mark L Ayer has called Archdale home for more than 30 years. Growing up in a military family, he had the privilege of living in many places in the U.S. and abroad, identifying with all types of people and cultures. Dr. Ayer received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in Zoology and Chemistry, his Masters degree from NC State University in Zoology, and his Doctorate degree from Iowa State University in Veterinary Medicine. After spending a year practicing in Charlotte, NC, he spent the next 8 years in High Point, NC prior to purchasing Archdale Animal Clinic in 1992.

Dr. Ayer has a special interest in managing medical cases in dogs and cats. He has also become quite a proficient surgeon throughout his career and still spends two days a week in the operating room.

In his free time, Dr. Ayer enjoys being actively involved in the High Point/Archdale and surrounding communities and is a long standing member of the Furnitureland Rotary, an active Boy Scout leader (an Eagle Scout himself), and a member of Crimestoppers of Archdale. When he's not supporting his community, he enjoys playing golf, bridge, and cheering on the UNC Tarheels! His faithful friend Artemus is never too far away.

Dr. Kelsey LaVigne

Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Kelsey LaVigne has been working with animals for as long as she can remember. She attended Virginia Tech for her undergraduate degree in Animal Science (Go Hokies!) before moving to North Carolina to obtain her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from NC State University. Upon graduating, she spent several years practicing at a mixed animal practice in rural Georgia before returning to North Carolina and joining Archdale Animal Clinic in 2016.

Her special interests include combining low stress animal handling and client education to provide the best preventative medicine approach for your pet and your family. She has had additional training in veterinary dentistry and a constantly growing interest in surgery.

Dr. LaVigne and her husband, Peter, have two young children, a "Georgia Ditch Dog" named Lucy, and a freshwater fish tank. She loves reading, hiking, volunteering, and traveling (especially to places she can snorkel!). She is looking forward to forming a lasting relationship with your fur-family.

Dr. Caitlin Rubow

Originally from Dallas, North Carolina, Dr. Rubow received her bachelor of science degree in biology, with a minor in chemistry, from Lenoir-Rhyne University (Go Bears!) in Hickory, North Carolina, in 2015. She then received her DVM degree from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019 (Go Vols!) in Knoxville.

Dr. Rubow worked in mixed animal practice in Sparta, NC before joining Archdale Animal Clinic. Her in practice special interests are educating clients on wellness and keeping their pets as healthy as possible, expanding surgical skills and learning new surgical procedures.

Outside of the practice, Dr. Rubow enjoys spending time with family, gardening, and adventures with River – hiking, kayaking, fishing, and spending time at the NC coast.

Dr. Elise Lavie

After growing up in Connecticut, Dr. Lavie attended Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!) where she received her Animal Science degree. She spent 6 months completing an internship program on a Kentucky Thoroughbred breeding farm prior to returning to LSU earn her DVM in 2014. She completed a yearlong veterinary internship at Carolina Equine Hospital in Browns Summit, NC before moving to the Charlotte area with her husband where she worked in equine practice for a few years. She then transitioned to working for the NC Department of Agriculture at one of the branches of the State Diagnostic Laboratory system before returning to the Greensboro area to work at Archdale Animal Clinic.

Dr. Lavie enjoys the variety of veterinary medicine and helping pet parents build lasting, healthy relationships with their pets. There is never a dull moment in veterinary medicine!

Dr. Lavie now lives back in Browns Summit with her husband (an equine veterinarian). They enjoy hiking, backpacking, and being outdoors in general as well as eating and cooking good food.
